A Private Southern Ireland Tour Like No Other

We call this tour “magical” for a reason. After our departure from Dublin, we traverse the breathtaking south of Ireland, travelling along the Wild Atlantic Way and getting off the beaten path on Slea Head Drive. Southern Ireland is simply unmatched when it comes to its natural beauty and cultural experiences, and over six incredible days, we enjoy the best of the region without ever feeling rushed.

Just some of the highlights on this private version of our Magical Southern 6-Day Ireland Tour include hiking over the Cliffs of Moher, kayaking in Dingle Bay, driving sections of the Ring of Kerry, exploring the mystical Burren, and kissing the Blarney Stone. We’ll also spend ample time in Irish towns like Galway, Doolin, and Dingle, where you’ll get to mingle with the locals and dance to traditional music in a pub!

For a complete insight, read through the detailed itinerary below. This trip comes with all the benefits of our Ireland Private Guided Tours, allowing you to travel with your select group in the company of a personal guide. And if you want a greater say in your dream Emerald Isle experience, please take a look at our Tailor-Made Ireland Tours instead.

Experience the Best of Ireland in 6 Days

Southern Ireland is simply unmatched when it comes to its natural beauty. On our private 6-day Ireland trip, you’ll have the chance to explore the medieval quarter of Kilkenny and drive along sections of the iconic Ring of Kerry. (If you want to drive the full route, have a look at our Ireland to Island 7-Day Tour.) Visit Ireland’s oldest national park and be awed by the views before going on an adventure in the Dingle Peninsula.

Of course, you can’t experience the Wild Atlantic Way without touring the dramatic Cliffs of Moher. You’ll get a real sense of this rugged region during an immersive hike, with a visit to the mystical Burren only adding to the experience.

There are plenty of cultural excursions during our road trip too. Tour historic attractions like the Glendalough Monastery, Kilkenny Castle and Blarney Castle, and even dive into ancient history with a visit to a portal tomb. We’ll spend ample time in Irish towns including Galway, Doolin, and Dingle, where you’ll get to mingle with the locals and dance to traditional music in a pub!

Important Note: While we always aim to follow the outlined itinerary, unforeseen circumstances such as weather, traffic, or local events may require us to make adjustments. In some cases, certain activities may be cancelled. If this happens on your 6-day private Ireland tour, your guide will always provide a thoughtful and enjoyable alternative to ensure your experience remains unforgettable. For this reason, we do not offer refunds for cancelled activities. Your comfort and enjoyment are always at the heart of everything we do.

Accessibility on This 6-Day Private Tour of Ireland: Our small-group tours are not wheelchair accessible due to the off-the-beaten-path nature of our routes, the size of our vehicles, and the fact that not all accommodation partners have ramps or elevators.

Our 6-Day Private South of Ireland Tour Itinerary

Day 1Glendalough to Kilkenny

Total driving time: 2 hour 50 minutes, excluding stops

Your magical 6-day private tour of Ireland’s south leaves Dublin and heads out along the Ancient East. Visit Glendalough Monastery via the Sally Gap and the Military Road unveiling the amazing scenery of the Wicklow mountains. Because Glendalough perches in the glacial valley of the two lakes, the views are breathtaking. Your private group’s dedicated local guide will take you on a walk around the monastery and scenic trails.

The next stop on day one of this exclusive Southern Ireland tour is Kilkenny Castle, one of the largest and best-maintained Irish castles. Roam the grand rooms where the lords and ladies lived, and admire the architecture, artwork, and furnishings that were once owned by these great families. Walk through the medieval quarter before resting your head in Kilkenny.

Day 2Blarney to Killarney

Total Driving time: 3 hours 15 minutes, excluding stops

As the song goes, ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary…’ But it’s only a short journey from Kilkenny to the 13th-century Cahir Castle standing proudly on a rocky island on the River Suir — and it’s all the more enjoyable in your group’s exclusive transport! Enjoy the tour of this ‘impregnable’ castle owned by the Butler family.

Next on this 6-day private trip to Ireland, it’s time to pucker up as we head to Blarney Castle and Gardens. Nobody should leave the Emerald Isle without giving the Blarney Stone a big fat kiss and receiving the treasured ‘gift of the gab’! Let us know if it works! You will have plenty of time to enjoy the gardens, castle, dungeons, and surroundings.

This evening, your group will stay in the capital of the Kingdom of Kerry – Killarney! The Kerry locals will keep you entertained with music, dancing, and a few tall tales.

Day 3The Kerry Experience

Total driving time: 1 hour 30 minutes, excluding stops

Prepare for a breathtaking trip around some of the hotspots on Ireland’s most famous and stunning ring road – The Ring of Kerry! But before that, the morning is yours to wander the streets of Killarney, indulge in some retail therapy, and unwind before embarking on your adventure.

Your group’s dedicated guide will bring you to Killarney National Park to explore everything it has to offer. Take in the views of the Killarney Lakes and stretch your legs making your way to Muckross House. This 19th-century home is full of Kerry history and a wonderful viewpoint to enjoy the park. Make a short walk for some Insta-worthy photos of Torc Waterfall.

Your Kerry experience will include stops at The Gap of Dunloe for some jaunting (optional) and a few tall tales! Around every corner, you will be yelling at your guide to stop your private transport so you can get out to take photos!

Smile all the way to your next destination – Dingle. The evening is yours to absorb the lively atmosphere in Dingle’s famous quirky pubs and many award-winning restaurants! Why not sit in Foxy John’s Hardware Store, order yourself a drink, and strike up a conversation with a colorful local?

Please note: We don’t complete the full Ring of Kerry on this 6-day tour of Ireland. Please see our Ireland to Island Tour if you are interested in the entire journey.

Day 4Dingle Peninsula

Total driving time: 1 hour 30 minutes, excluding stops

At last, a bit of free time! Relax this morning in Dingle and explore the town’s wonderful craft, crystal, pottery, art, and boutique shops. Grab a coffee and a slice of cake and watch the world go by! If you feel like stretching your legs, your group’s guide will take you out on a stroll to Eask Tower for beautiful vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and Dingle Bay.

After lunch, your expert Overland guide will take your group on an exclusive trip along one of Ireland’s most scenic roads – The Slea Head Drive. If you are lucky enough, you might get to meet and pet a couple of our local fluffy friends…baby lambs! You are guaranteed awesome views and photo opportunities around every corner of this scenic route.

The buzzing town of Dingle is such a highlight of our Southern Ireland excursions that we stay for a second night, so you don’t need to repack your suitcase. Just relax and enjoy. Maybe tonight you can grab some fish and chips and eat al fresco on the pier!

Day 5 Dingle to The Cliffs of Moher

Total driving time: 4 hours, excluding stops

This morning, we leave the Kingdom of Kerry and cross the River Shannon to County Clare.

We are cliff-bound today! Begin your day with a breathtaking journey along the Wild Atlantic Way in private transport, followed by a delicious lunch at the Vandeleur Walled Garden restaurant. See how the other half lived!

Your treat for the day is an afternoon spent at the famous Cliffs of Moher – The Eighth Wonder of the World. Here, we will take a leisurely stroll along the cliffs and discover what all the hype is about! Be it on this 6-day private trip to Ireland or any other tour, the Cliffs of Moher never disappoint! Just pray the WIFI is strong so you can share your pics and make everyone back home green with jealousy!

In the evening, we stay at Spanish Point and enjoy serene coastal views, where history and natural beauty come together.

Day 6Burren National Park to Galway

Total driving time: 1 hour 40 minutes, excluding stops

Goodbye, Clare – Hello, Bohemian Galway! On the last day of this private tour of Ireland, we will take you for a traditional ‘Irish Farm Safari’ with our friends at the Burren Farm Experience. Bronagh and Cathal will take your group on a stroll around the distinctive UNESCO-designated landscape to taste, feel, and walk your way through this 500-acre farm. It is fascinating to see how farming thrives in this harsh stony landscape. They will share their 200-year family history in the Burren.

En route to Galway City in your group’s exclusive private transport, you can experience even more of the diverse flora and fauna in The Burren National Park. Arrive in the bohemian and culturally diverse Galway City, where you will have the afternoon to explore its many quaint shops.

It’s then time to say goodbye! You will take a local transfer from Galway back to Dublin’s fair city. Our guides will arm you with great recommendations of things to see and do if you have a little time left in Ireland. Perhaps the journey is the perfect opportunity to sit back and reminisce about the incredible 6-day private tour of Ireland you’ve just experienced!
